Well, in Rome almost everything is worth noting. Cathedrals, basilicas,…
A new lighting system has just been installed on St. Peter’s dome, which had appeared like wrapped into darkness in the past nights precisely because renovation works were going on. All is now completed, and the brand new lights will be inaugurated today 19 December at about 6pm by Pope Francis himself. The revolutionary light setting will guarantee 70% of energy saving and a much better performance, since the LEDs shades have been designed and placed according to the piece of architecture they will enlighten. The same lightining system has been set on the facade of the of Santa Maria Maggiore Church (one of the four major basilicas in Rome, few steps away from Termini station).
The inauguration cerimony significantly falls on the same day when the traditional Christmas tree (a white spurce coming from Calabria region) and the Nativity scene (Presepe) will be light up in St. Peter’s Square.
From now onwards, even after Christmas time, St. Peter’s will be wearing a new shining dress of lights, making definitely worth a visit by night time.
